The Startups News-IndiaAI Mission: MeitY Evaluates 20,000 GPU Offers, Doubling Expectations-The Startups News Panels

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has received an overwhelming response under the IndiaAI Mission. Initially seeking 10,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) through a request for empanelment, the ministry has now received offers for over 20,000 GPUs. This development underscores the enthusiasm of industry players to contribute to India’s AI infrastructure growth. The IndiaAI Mission aims to create affordable AI computing capacity to support startups, academia, and research agencies. With collaborations from global and Indian tech leaders, the initiative is set to revolutionize AI in India.

What is the IndiaAI Mission?

The IndiaAI Mission, launched by MeitY, is a pioneering initiative to establish India as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI). The program focuses on building affordable AI infrastructure and fostering innovation by supporting startups, academic institutions, and research bodies.

Key Objectives:

  1. Create a robust AI ecosystem in India.
  2. Provide cutting-edge GPU resources to stakeholders.
  3. Develop ethical AI frameworks and tools for risk assessment, deepfake detection, and stress testing.
  4. Promote public-private partnerships in AI.

Funding and Operational Model

The IndiaAI Mission is backed by a substantial allocation of ₹10,370 crore. The funds are directed towards:

  1. Infrastructure Development: Building GPU-powered AI computing facilities.
  2. Research Support: Facilitating advanced AI research in academic institutions.
  3. Innovation Grants: Offering financial support to startups and research projects focused on AI.
  4. Collaboration: Encouraging Indian firms to tie up with global leaders like Nvidia.

The program’s 36-month empanelment process can be extended by an additional year, ensuring long-term impact.
